舍恩伯格认为，有时候不一定是理念来驱动世界的变化，可能是实实在在的数据，在数据的基础上产生理念，数据驱动世界的变化，数据是我们创新的驱动力。

他分析，在中国及国外都受欢迎的UBER,其实并不是一个的士公司，也并不仅仅是一个通信的平台，而是一个关于移动信息的数据搜集平台。它知道什么时候有多少人想去哪里，它能够基于数据重新分配资源，这样汽车的使用率就可以大大提高，你就不需要买车了，你只要按按手机上的按键就能用车，这样资源的效率能够大大提高。

“在西方，私家车其实共乘率只有4%，96%的时间、空间都被浪费了，大数据发现了这一现象，改变这样一个态势，让资源的效率大大提高。”维克托・迈尔・舍恩伯格认为，这样对于环境是有好处的，这对于我们缩短交通时间有好处，对于UBER来说意味着巨大的经济利益。

舍恩伯格教授在演讲中谈到大数据能够带来更多的经济价值和社会价值时，他认为，过去我们有问题才去搜集数据然后分析数据，回答问题，然后把数据扔掉，其实数据的价值是可以使用再使用再循环，多次使用。而这对于包括中国在内的制造行业来说，意味着你只要能够充分的使用信息，那么，你就不会陷入制造业发展的僵局中，你可以用数据来进行创新，进行突破，而且创造出一个新的环境。

在谈及大数据的安全与私密性问题上，舍恩伯格教授提出数据的使用方要承担更大的责任，他认为我们要做的事情是要大型的机构承担更多的义务，改变信息保护机制的起点，不仅仅是在于信息的提供方，我们每一个消费者都从我们这里出发，而应该更多地提高公司的道德和法律的责任。否则的话我们很容易失去普通受众对于大数据的信息。而对于大数据垄断问题，舍恩伯格教授认为我们可以开发更多类似于奥尔这种方式的开源平台，其次，政府应该承担更多的责任，从法律的角度防止数据垄断。

现任牛津大学网络学院互联网治理与监管专业教授，是最早洞见大数据时代发展趋势的数据科学家之一，被誉为“大数据之父”。十余年潜心研究数据科学，使他成为了大数据领域最受人尊敬的权威发言人之一，他的学术成果斐然，有一百多篇论文公开发表在《科学》、《自然》等著名学术期刊上，他所著的《大数据时代》是迄今为止全世界最好的一本大数据专著。如今，他是备受众多知名企业依赖的信息权威与顾问，他的咨询客户包括微软、惠普、IBM等。
